JAMES LAWFORD DAVIES
James is one of the band’s three fiddlers and, in addition to the Violin, also plays the Viola and Shruti.
He started playing the Violin at the age of 4 and rarely put it down until he became a solicitor – a profession which doesn’t comfortably cater for outside interests.
Having been classically trained, usually playing from a score and often with someone waving a baton, James found the transition to folk initially terrifying. He says “It has, however, proved very rewarding and liberating!”
James has a diverse interest in music of all kinds but he has a particular fondness for Planxty (and Christie Moore), The Pogues, Lankum, Blazin’ Fiddles, Gwilym Bowen Rhys, Calan and Olivia Chaney. Oh, and the Dropkick Murphys.
James’ day job is a Solicitor and Chauffeur to four daughters.
He was initially rather intimidated by the knowledge and skill of other members of the group, but says “over time I found my place and have derived tremendous pleasure from playing with such talented musicians.”
